Virological Markers
- Produced by the virus and recognised by the immune system
- Essentially tells you what the virus is doing
- Tell you if HBV is present and/or actively replicating
- HBsAG: a protein from the hepatitis B virus detectable in the blood (viral surface antigen)
- HBeAG: a viral protein associated with active HBV replication (viral antigen)
- HBV DNA: directly detects and measures the virus's genetic material
